The news has come: soon the squat at number 67 will be gone. Diggers are already at work on the neighbouring plot, and the site will be sealed by the demolition of this beautiful Toulouse house with its lavish, faded wallpapers. Over its four years of existence, more than two hundred people lived there — Ambra, a rebellious, outgoing 15-year-old Franco-Bosnian; Zoé, a dance student; Lorentziu, a Romanian construction worker on Toulouse building sites… From varied backgrounds and for different reasons, out of necessity or political choice, they built and rebuilt themselves here, inventing and testing collective ways of living — a human endeavour that property developers are trying to set in concrete.
